Terms of Service

These Terms are a draft version for the alpha stage of Comet. They will be reviewed and updated before public launch.

Last updated: May 2026

1. Overview

Comet is a web-based PDF review and annotation service. Users can upload PDF files, add annotations, share review links, export annotated PDFs, and, where available, save documents to cloud storage.

By using Comet, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the service.

2. Account and sign-in

Some features may be available without signing in. Features such as cloud save, document history, paid tools, and account-based storage may require sign-in.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under your account.

3. Uploaded files and user content

You retain ownership of the PDF files, annotations, comments, and other content you upload or create using Comet.

You grant Comet the limited permission necessary to store, process, display, export, and share your content only for the purpose of providing the service.

Please do not upload content that you do not have the right to use, share, or store.

4. Sharing and collaboration

Comet may allow you to generate share links for PDF review. Anyone with access to a share link may be able to view the shared document and annotations depending on the current feature settings.

You are responsible for deciding who you share links with and for managing sensitive or confidential documents carefully.

5. Paid plans

Comet may offer paid plans such as Pro and Team. Paid plans may include additional features, larger cloud storage capacity, watermark removal, measurement tools, and advanced review workflows.

During the alpha stage, some paid-plan features may still be in development, and checkout may initially be handled through external payment links or manual account updates.

6. Cloud storage limits

Cloud save features may be subject to file count, file size, and total storage limits depending on your plan.

Comet may refuse additional uploads, ask you to delete files, or offer an upgrade path if your account exceeds the applicable storage limit.

7. Prohibited use

You agree not to use Comet to:

  • Upload unlawful, harmful, or infringing content.
  • Access or attempt to access another user's account or files.
  • Interfere with the security or operation of the service.
  • Reverse engineer, abuse, overload, or disrupt the service.
  • Use the service in a way that violates applicable laws.

8. Service availability

Comet is currently under development. The service may change, experience downtime, or be discontinued in whole or in part.

We will make reasonable efforts to keep the service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

9. Disclaimer

Comet is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Comet and its operators shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or business opportunities arising from the use of the service.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and may provide additional notice where appropriate.

12. Contact

Contact information will be added before public launch. For the alpha stage, please contact the Comet operator through the communication channel provided during testing.
